Christmas Jars Story: 'A fire broke out in the home of one of the families who attends our school'

Woodstock, Virginia:

My second grade classroom was fortunate enough to have Jason Wright come to read his story, Penny's Christmas Jar Miracle, to us a few weeks ago. The students then started collecting any spare change that they had at home and brought it in to our classroom Christmas Jar. We were going to give our jar to an organization that works to provide food to needy children, but things changed on the day that the jar was to be given away.

That morning, a fire broke out in the home of one of the families who attends our school. As soon as my students found out that this family had suffered such a loss that morning, they knew immediately that we should instead give our Christmas Jar to that family. We contacted our assistant principal and presented the jar to her to then, in turn, give it to the family. It touched my heart so much and the children felt so proud to be helping others!
